Letter to the editor: Waterways Ireland

The Editor,Letters Page,The Irish Times.

Dear Editor,
Reading the report on the  Canal “liveaboards” and the response from Waterways Ireland I am once again struck by the role of the ( far too) many Quangos in Irish life.
Is there role to serve their institution or the Irish public? Sadly in my experience too many of them have a loyalty and apparently a duty in the first instance to their Quango. The Public are only the secondary concern.
Until we understand that essential difference between Public Service and (some of) The Public Service we will continue to have unaccountable disconnected agencies having far too much control over our society.
Yours sincerely,
Dermot Lacey
