Press Release: Give CAO points for Gaisce Recipients

“As the Minister for Education brings forward new and welcome changes to enable young people make better subject and level choices for the Leaving Certificate consideration should be given to awarding points to recipients of the Gaisce awards” says former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey.

“In many respects these awards reflect the real, social and personal achievements and abilities of the young person and should be eligible for consideration for Third level college application similar to grades awarded in the more academic leaning leaving Certificate.

Granting to CAO points for achieving the Gaisce awards would be an incentive to young people who were perhaps not as academic to pursue their goals via a different route and would be fair acknowledgement of their efforts.”
