Padraig Harrington – Freedom of Dublin City

Following the recent success in the US and British Open Golf Championships of Padraig Harrington I have joined with many others in supporting the awarding to him of our highest honour the Freedom of the City of Dublin.

Some years ago Padraig was given a Lord Mayor’s Award and I believe that the City Council should now acknowledge his further achievements in this manner. As Lord Mayor, I was proud to honour another World Champion – Ken Doherty – with an award; not just because of his amazing sporting ability, but for the dignified manner in which he represented our city and country abroad. Padraig Harrington is exactly the same.

He is a truly terrific ambassador for our country, a truly great sportsman and a deserving recipient of the highest award we can give.
