McDowell Should Clarify Remarks on Poolbeg Incinerator

“Michael McDowell should clarify his remarks that the proposed Poolbeg Incinerator will not now be built as planned “, according to former Lord Mayor of Dublin and local Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey

In an interview with the Southside People (19th July), Minister Mc Dowell is reported as saying “that after months of pressure and debate he is confident that the incinerator will now not be built as planned in Ringsend.”

Minister Mc Dowell should clarify:

1) Is he representing determined Government Policy.
2) Is he saying that NO Incinerator will be built at Ringsend.
3) Is he saying that their will be some sort of Incinerator or Thermal Treatment Plant at Ringsend.
4) Is he saying that the traffic and transportation fears of so many residents of the area in relation to any such plant will not now be a problem.
5) Is he saying that the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government manoeuvring to impose this unwanted, undesirable and unsuitable proposal is wrong.
6) Is he saying that Dublin City Council Officials should now cease all preparatory work on the Ringsend proposal and now seriously examine all other options towards developing an alternative Waste Strategy for Dublin.

“If Minister Mc Dowell cannot answer an emphatic Yes to all these questions his remarks amount to no more that political posturing at the expense of the many fine people campaigning for an improved environment in the Ringsend/Sandymount areas” I await a simple clarification ion the usual unambiguous terms used by Minister Mc Dowell.
