Scully’s Field – Bord Pleanála Decision Welcomed

The decision by An Bord Pleanala announced today to refuse permission for a 92 apartment development along the River Dodder at Milltown has been welcomed by local Labour City Councillor, Dermot Lacey.

“As the only elected Public Representative to appeal the two planning approvals for the area known locally as Scully’s Field I salute the local community activists who pursued this matter to its successful conclusion”.

“However this decision by An Bord Pleanala seriously calls into question the procedures and guidelines operating within the Planning Department of Dublin City Council that allowed the allowed the original decision to grant approval.

“That decision has cost local residents and public representatives thousands of Euro in terms of the cost of waging this appeal. Dublin City Council should now reimburse those appellants who clearly defended the Dublin City Development Plan at a time when the City Council Planners chose not to.”

“Given this decision it is now opportune to demand of the Department of the Environment and Local Government that sufficient resources be allocated to the three Dublin Local Authorities to create a major linear park along the entire length of the Dodder serving the wider Dublin community. Money for this could be allocated through the Dormant Accounts Fund”.
