Letter to Editor – Belfield Development

The Editor,
Letters Page,
The Irish Times,
D’Olier Street,
Dublin 2.

Dear Editor,

I am truly delighted that Kieran Mc Gowan (Irish Times 14th December) is “impressed every time he steps on to the beautiful Belfield campus”.

I would be even more delighted if, in his role as Chairman of the UCD Governing Authority, Mr Mc Gowan would ensure that UCD and their Developer allies, withdrew the outrageous planning application they have lodged with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Unfortunately, for the residents of this area, parts of Mr McGowan’s “beautiful Belfield campus” are being lined up for nearly 500 apartments, an office complex and approximately 1,000 cars pouring out on to already congested local roads. All of this without a scrap of consultation or even notification issued to local residents. If this is Mr Mc Gowans and Dr Hugh Bradys “bold and ambitious vision” we would be better off without it.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Dermot Lacey
