Prime Time Programme on Dublin Traffic – A Wasted Opportunity
Prime Time Programme on Dublin Traffic – A Wasted Opportunity
Statement by Councillor Dermot Lacey
Labour – Dublin City Council
“The heavily promoted Prime Time Programme on RTE (Tuesday 14th September) about Dublin traffic was one of the most wasted opportunities of the Public Broadcasting Service”, according to the former Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Dermot Lacey.
“In the course of the programme there was no serious analysis of the reasons for the mess which is Dublin Traffic. No outline of the multiplicity of agencies, all with partial responsibility for transport in Dublin, inflicted on the City by Government, who between them have simply demonstrated an incapacity to deliver.
“No questioning of the continued failure of Minister and Department of Transport to provide the additional buses required, the failure to establish the long promised Land Use and Transport Authority and the effective abandonment of the promised designated Traffic Corps.
“Three months ago, Dubliners went to the polls to elect City and County Councillors, who have at least some responsibility in relation to traffic and transport. The failure of Prime Time to engage with those elected at Local Government level, was yet another indication of RTE’s contempt for Local Government. Clearly once again RTE thought it new better. Clearly, once again, it does not.”
