Community Tennis Facility Must be Saved (Letter to Residents)
“Community Tennis Facility Must be Saved”
Dear Resident,
I have been contacted by residents of Belmont Avenue concerned at the possible loss of St. Mary’s Lawn Tennis Club to residential development.
As a resident of Donnybrook, as a parent of two young children and as Public Representative for this area, I will oppose any measure that would see our community lose such a facility.
The present Zoning for the site does not allow residential development except when it is ancillary to retaining the core open space/amenity. In my view it would not be possible to develop any residential amenity AND protect the Club. Therefore I will oppose any attempt to rezone this site.
I am conscious of the high costs of maintaining Clubs such as St. Mary’s LTC and am committed to working with the Club and local residents to see how this can be best achieved. However rezoning the site with a consequential loss of the Club Facilities to Donnybrook is not an option.
Donnybrook is not a place that I visit to work or simply to represent. It is my home, where I grew up, where my children will grow up and where I hope to stay. No action of mine has ever or will ever do anything other than support this community. This issue is no exception.
If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
Cllr Dermot Lacey
