“Fine Gael have some neck regarding Development Plan”

“Fine Gael have some neck regarding Development Plan”

Statement by Councillor Dermot Lacey
Labour Pembroke Ward

“Recent comments by Fine Gael candidates in the Pembroke and Rathmines areas in relation to the Draft City Development Plan have indicated either an ignorance of the facts or a level of hypocrisy that Fianna Fail would be proud of” according to the former Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Dermot Lacey.

“Justifying their decision to plaster the local area with Pre-Election posters their candidates claim that they are simply trying to inform people about the Development Plan and criticising the City Council and by extension the sitting Councillors for failing to consult on this matter.

Leaving aside the fact that Fine Gael, along with Fianna Fail, voted against allowing such posters, their comments about involvement in the Development Plan process are a bit rich coming from a Party that spectacularly failed to involve itself at City Council level.

For the record therefore here at the facts. When the Pre-Draft Development Plan came before the City Council the following submissions were put forward by Councillors.

Fianna Fail 4 ( of which two were essentially the same)
Fine Gael 1
Labour 82
Sinn Fein 0
Greens 38

In addition as a Councillor for the Pembroke area I circulated every single Residents Association that I was aware of details of the Plan, invited their comments and made submissions in relation to many of these.

Smart alec press releases are no substitute for hard work and while wishing Fine Gael candidates well in our joint hope to rid this country of this awful Government I hope that in future they do not cast their doubts on those who do not deserve it.”
