Decision to abandon Traffic Corps another blow to Dublin
“Decision to abandon Traffic Corps another blow to Dublin”
Statement by Councillor Dermot Lacey
Labour City Councillor Pembroke Area
“The decision by the Government to abandon plans for a dedicated Traffic Corps is a major blow to tackling the problems of Traffic/Transport and Parking in the
Dublin area and represents a further example of this Government reneging on their Election committments” according to former Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Dermot Lacey.
“Dublin needs a dedicated authority committed to tackling traffic related issues as its number one priority and not as an adjunct to the important task of crime prevention and detection which should be the absolute priority of the Gardai”.
“Establishing a Traffic Corps must be put back on the agenda for Government and responsibility for dealing with all Traffic matters transferred to the relevant Local Authorities”.
“Allied to the failure to deliver the promised 2,000 additional Gardai this decision means that an already overstretched Police force will have even more responsibility than envisaged and with less resources to do that increased work”.
“On this, as on so many other issues, Fianna Fail and the PDs have let down Dublin and should go before they inflict any more damage”
